Robert Alfred Easter was born in Wells next the Sea on 24th September 1898,(Walsingham Q4-1898 4B:281) , baptised Wells next the Sea on 13th November 1898, son of Alfred and Sarah Elizabeth EASTER (née FLOWERDAY).

1901 census...Aged 2, he was at Freeman Street, Wells next the Sea, Norfolk with his mother Elizabeth EASTER [33] born Ingham, Norfolk and his sister Elsie E [6] born Wells. There were 2 other siblings in 1891, Mary E [5] and Samuel J [3] both born in Docking, Norfolk. His father has not been found in this census

He was admitted to Soham Grammar School from Council School, Soham on 13th September 1910, aged 12 years with a scholarship. (source:-http://www.sohamgrammar.org.uk/go-to-admission-register.htm)

1911 census... Aged 12, he was at St John's Square, Soham with his mother Sarah Elizabeth. His father, Alfred EASTER [51] bricklayer, born Gayton Thorpe, Norfolk, was a boarder at 128 Mill Road, Cambridge with Charles and Mary POMFRET.


He enlisted on 6th April 1915 at Bury St. Edmunds, giving his date of birth as 9th September 1898, a farm labourer born in Wells next the Sea. He was 4 feet (151.8 cm) 11,75 inches tall, weighed 84 lbs 38.1 kg), chest 31" to 33" (78.7 to 83.8 cm), grey eyes, chestnut hair, a Baptist. Next of kin, his father Alfred living at St John's Square, Soham. He was accepted as fit for entry as a boy and served as bandsman and worked in the shoe makers shop. On reaching the age of 18 years he became private at the Depot. He was frequently in hospital and in May 1917 at Colchester Hospital he was recommended for discharge due to Tuberculosis, which is was stated originated 2 1/2 years earlier but was aggravated by military service. He was awarded silver war badge and discharged on 25th May 1917 Awarded silver war badge 184178. He was judged to be `100% incapacitated for at least 6 months, to be reviewed. His intended address after discharge was given as St John's Square, Soham. He never served abroad and therefore did not qualify for any medals. He died at home and was buried on 7th July 1917 in Soham Cemetery.
